How to OIR a VIP from software 
To initiate an Online-Insertion and Removal (OIR) of a VIP through software, run the following hidden IOS commands:
- Router# test rsp slot mask {slot #} (This masks the VIP. Note VIP continues to function as normal until the second command is issued)
- Router# test rsp stall (This will "stall" the masked slot and fool IOS into believing that the VIP has been removed)
To "re-insert" the VIP, run the following commands:
- Router# test rsp slot unmask {slot #}
- Router# test rsp stall
Uses:
This command is especially useful for stabilizing remote routers with VIPs that crash continuously (and thus disrupts the system) until a field engineer gets to site to do a physical OIR.
