Configuring VoIP on a Nokia Symbian^3 Smartphone
While the N8 and other Nokia products have very good native SIP support they don't ship with an application which allows the end user to configure it. Configuration is anticipated to be done through OMA Device Management defined XML files. Unless you are prepared to do this you will need to download the SIP VoIP Settings application from the URL referenced below.
Send the file to your device using Bluetooth or any means you find convenient. Open the file and follow the prompts to install it. To configure your device to use a VoIP service follow the steps below.
Navigate to the user interface of the application: Settings -> Connectivity -> Admin. Settings
Select SIP settings and then Options -> New SIP profile -> Use default profile
You will probably want to leave Access point in use set to None so that you may use your VoIP settings with any network.
Set Public username to the Address of Record (AOR) you will use (e.g. bob@domain.net).
Select Registrar server. Set Registrar server address to the URI of the SIP registrar (e.g. sip:domain.net). The SIP User Agent (UA) will query DNS for SRV and NAPTR if you use a domain name.
Configure the Realm to match what your registrar uses. This is important as the SIP UA will not accept a mismatch.
Configure Username, and Password as appropriate.
